We run youth-led programmes to tackle the issues that young people care about the most. We also run the Youth Collective – a growing network of over 5,000 local youth-led organisations in 185 countries. Our Communications is key to strengthening youth power, engagement of young leaders everywhere, especially in the majority world, as well as strengthening the visibility and profile awareness of Restless Development with partners and funders.
This NEW ROLE has been created to set up and engage a global community of youth power champions to create communications content for and by young leaders.
About the Role
We know that young people are capable of changing the world – we see it every day! However, we need to convince the rest of the world, and that’s where you come in.
We are looking for an excellent communicator, who can help us celebrate the role that young people play in the world, in order to inspire other young people and decision makers to take action.

Job Title : Youth Power Communications Coordinator
Location : In the global south with a preference for Nairobi, Lagos or Johannesburg, or in a Restless Development Hub in India, Nepal, Tanzania, Uganda, Sierra Leone, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
Salary : Kenya: KES 3,255,289 pa, plus 6% housing allowance, or National equivalent as per our Global Salary Scale
Length of Contract : 1 year fixed term with possibility of extension
Visa Requirements : Must have the right to work in their country of residence
Reports To :Head of Communications (with a dotted line to the Co-CEO)
Direct Reports : Youth Power Champions (to be recruited)
This is a new role which will supercharge our communications output – taking our youth-led communications to the next level. You will work with young leaders to increase the amount, quality and cut-through of youth powered comms, with a focus on celebrating and enabling youth power.
This role will be responsible for the Youth Power Champions – which will bring together the Content Creators and previous Youth Power Panel approaches – selecting a small group of young leaders who will be supported and receive a stipend to be part of the communications work for 1-2 years. These creative excellent communicators will be globally distributed and passionate about a variety of topics. Your role will be to support them to share skills, learning and maximise cut-through on digital, social and traditional media platforms.
Key Priority Areas
1)Youth Powered Communications: Leading the Youth Power Champions
- Coordinate a growing team of young leaders to have voice and cut-through on the issues they care about.
- Recruit, on-board and support new Youth Power Champions – engaging them to creative content on youth-led change, use and test new challenges. Ensure the champions are supported, gain new skills and the power of collective comms and storytelling. Â
- Build relationships with key Youth Collective members, and create processes for content sharing.
- Develop and deliver training workshops or resources to equip young people with communication skills and digital literacy.
2)Youth Powered Communications: Collaborating across Restless Development
- Collaborate with and support Hub communications officers to establish a streamlined process for gathering youth-led stories from the field.
- Develop and implement strategies to integrate content contributions from Youth Collective members, ensuring their voices are amplified.
- Support internal stakeholders in understanding how to communicate more effectively with young audiences.
3) Creating inspiring and engaging content that gets noticed
- Lead the development of compelling, youth-led communication content across various channels.
- Create high-quality, engaging content (written, visual, and audio) that resonates with young people and aligns with organisation’s goals. Support and inspire others to do the same!
- Use and test new platforms, ideas and content.Â
- Identify and promote youth-led communication initiatives and success stories.
- Innovate, learn from others and facilitate a communications culture that works best for young leaders that are changing the world (and not bound by the ‘international development’ or INGO sector).Â
- Identify strategic engagement opportunities to amplify youth voices and create impactful campaigns.
- Stay updated on the latest tools and technologies for youth engagement to ensure content stays relevant and engaging.
4)Coordination and Organisation:
- Develop and deliver against a comprehensive communications plan that enables us to test and deliver engaging comms to young leaders.Â
- Conduct research and analysis to understand the needs, interests, and preferred communication platforms of your target youth audience.
- Optimising Content Strategy & Platform Growth
- Analyse audience data and emerging trends to identify the most effective channels for reaching target demographics.
- Evaluate existing communication channels and recommend new platforms or discontinue underperforming ones to maximise reach and impact

Skills and experience
Essential
- Proven experience in managing diverse and dispersed teams
- Youth engagement expertise, including proven track record in running successful youth oriented campaigns
- A strong understanding of how to develop and implement communication strategies that resonate with young audiences.
- Exceptional verbal and nonverbal communication skills. This includes writing and editing.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and stay organised.
- Sound safeguarding knowledge
Desirable
- Experience with digital marketing strategies targeting youthful audiences.
- Multicultural Fluency: Demonstrate the ability to understand and appreciate diverse cultures and perspectives
- Appreciation of Power Shifting in relation to communications
- Demonstrate the ability to analyse data to track the success of communication campaigns and make data-driven decisions
