United States International University-Africa (USIU-Africa), is a Higher Learning Institution based in Nairobi, Kenya and is the most diverse university in East and Central Africa with about 6,000 students from over 60 nations, and a global network of more than 25,000 alumni. USIU-Africa is the only university in Sub-Saharan Africa whose degree programs are accredited by both the Kenya Government through the Commission for University Education (CUE), and by the American Government through the WASC Senior Colleges and Universities Commission (WSCUC).

  • Marketing and Communications Officer

Job Summary

The Marketing and Communications Officer will be instrumental in implementing and supporting communication strategies to both internal and external stakeholders. The office holder will be part of the Strategic Marketing & Communications team and report to the Principal Communications Officer.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Support the creation of engaging and informative content for all university publications, including the weekly newsletter Campus This Week, articles, press releases, academic catalog, academic calendar, commencement booklet, website, impact stories and social media posts;
  2. Foster effective communication within the university by ensuring that stakeholders are informed about key initiatives, updates, and developments;
  3. Provide guidance to the University community to ensure consistent messaging in alignment with the University’s communication goals;
  4. Support media relations as well as planning and developing communication to external stakeholders to enhance the university’s image;
  5. Ensure consistency in messaging and branding across all communication channels;
  6. Assist in crafting effective communication content, including speeches, presentations, and messaging;
  7. Uphold the university’s brand identity and reputation;
  8. Proofread, fact-check and edit all communication and marketing content, and publications;
  9. Assist in planning and implementing new communication campaigns;
  10. Support School’s, Departments and projects communication needs and requirements;
  11. Assist with the production of audio-visual content in collaboration with the Schools and various Departments/ Divisions as required;
  12. Craft internal communication materials emerging from various Departments, projects and Schools, to promote the University’s values and achievements;
  13. Monitor the stakeholder ecosystem and advise on the perceptions of the stakeholders on our communication interventions;
  14. Any other tasks related to his/her area of work as required.


  1. Bachelor’s degree in Communication or Journalism;
  2. 3-4 years’ experience working and leading in media, and communications;
  3. Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to create content that resonates with various audiences;
  4. Experience in content collection, report writing and generating impact stories;
  5. Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines while maintaining a high level of quality;
  6. Keen attention to detail;
  7. Experience of producing a range of marketing & communication materials;
  8. Familiarity with digital marketing tools and platforms.

Skills and Competencies

  1. Ability to multi-task and work quickly and effectively under pressure with minimal supervision;
  2. Proven communication and relationship-building skills;
  3. Familiarity with modern and best-practice approaches to communication and knowledge exchange;
  4. Be a self-starter, reliable, can prioritize tasks, and show initiative at work;
  5. Have high integrity, accountability, and punctuality.
