At Finance for Biodiversity (FfB) Foundation we’re looking for an established Communications Director to lead our internal and external communications and strengthen our position.
Location: Our work is conducted around the globe, and we therefore work mainly online/remotely

About the role
In this role, you will oversee internal and external communications, create content to increase awareness of our working group activities and programmes among financial institutions, develop fundraising strategies, oversee our communications planning and amplify our initiatives as we prepare for our participation in key global biodiversity summits like COP16 in 2024 and the delivery of the Finance for Biodiversity Pledge report in 2025.
You will report to the Executive Director and directly manage the Communications Coordinator and the Community Coordinator.
Your key responsibilities
- Develop and implement strategic communication plans that align with our mission and actions.
- Oversee internal communications to ensure our members and signatories to the Pledge receive effective information and support to meet their commitments and join our community activities.
- Manage media relations, including crafting press releases, coordinating and preparing interviews.
- Oversee and manage content creation and planning across various channels, including social media, website, members platform, newsletters, and our publications.
- Manage and edit the creation of our publications and develop OpEd’s, providing wider thought/opinion pieces.
- Manage the company’s digital and social media strategy to engage with audiences effectively.
- Develop marketing campaigns to recruit new potential Pledge signatories and members.
- Support the development of fundraising strategies, oversee the preparation of proposals and maintain strong relationships with donors and the sponsors of our events.
- Develop and manage our events during global biodiversity summits and oversee our participation in external events with our members to enhance stakeholder visibility and engagement.
- Maintain and enhance the company’s brand image and reputation through consistent messaging and brand management.
- Analyse the effectiveness of communication strategies and marketing outreach campaigns, using metrics to refine and improve efforts.
- Lead and mentor our communication and community professionals, ensuring continuous professional development.

- Excellent writer: Proficient in editing publications and content creation across various mediums and genres. Demonstrates mastery of the English language, audience engagement, and conveying complex and technical content with clarity and creativity.
- Technical Proficiency: Ability to understand and distill highly complex technical information into clear, engaging content.
- Strategic Thinking: Strong strategic thinking skills to develop and implement effective communication and content strategies.
- Project management: Expertise in organising and overseeing multiple projects and provision in setting and meeting timelines.
- Leadership: Proven leadership experience, with the ability to manage and inspire a team.
- Versatility: Versatile in creating various types of content, including written, visual, and multimedia formats.

Qualifications
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in a communications role, with at least 3 years in a leadership or managerial position.
- Master’s degree
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Proven track record of success in editing publications, content creation, and strategic communications and the ability to oversee the production of high-quality communications materials.
- Strong organisational skills and experience in coordinating and leading multiple projects simultaneously from inception to completion, setting timelines, prioritise tasks ensuring they meet deadlines and objectives.
- Demonstrated experience in managing and mentoring a team of communication professionals.
- A good understanding of environmental, biodiversity, and/or finance-related issues is preferred.
- Experience working with global teams and stakeholders in diverse cultural contexts.
- Proficiency in digital and social media platforms, content management systems, and communication analytics tools.
- Passion for the environment and sustainability initiatives is highly desirable.
Contract
- Initial one-year fixed-term contract with the potential for continued employment

The Finance for Biodiversity Foundation is a non-profit organisation founded in March 2021. It is dedicated to fostering a call to action and collaboration between financial institutions via working groups and programmes, serving as a connecting body for contributing signatories of the FfB Pledge and partner organisations. To date, 177 financial institutions, representing 27 countries with over €22.1 trillion in assets, have signed the FfB Pledge. The current 76 financial institution members of the FfB Foundation are sharing knowledge on biodiversity in the different working groups and setting up collaborative actions in diverse subgroups and corporate engagement initiatives.
