Calling for Proposals: Digital Democracy Initiative (DDI), Apply!!
Overview
The Digital Democracy Initiative (DDI) is a program dedicated to safeguarding inclusive democracy and human rights in the digital age, particularly in countries experiencing democratic regression and where civic space is under threat. Launched during the 2023 Summit for Democracy by the Danish Government and the EU Commission as a TeamEurope initiative, the DDI aims to support local civil society organizations and activists in the Global South in their fight for democracy and human rights in the digital era.
Program Focus
Digital technologies offer immense potential for strengthening pluralist democracy, encouraging civic participation, and amplifying the voices of marginalized groups. However, they also pose new risks to human rights and democratic processes, including censorship, digital surveillance, misinformation, cyber-attacks, persecution, and harassment.
Call for Proposals
The DDI is now inviting proposals from civil society organizations and activists in the Global South under three thematic lots:
- Lot 1: Combatting technology-facilitated gender-based violence
- Lot 2: Leveraging digital technologies for climate activism
- Lot 3: Strengthening youth engagement in the digital democratic space
The program is designed to promote scalability, attracting additional donors and increasing the number of implementing partners from 2023 to 2026.
