DCA is seeking to recruit an energetic Kenyan National for the position of Communication and Events Assistant. The position is Nairobi based with frequent travel to DCA Kenya and partner counties of operation – and reports to the DCA Head of Programme.
The Communication and Events (C&E) Assistant will contribute towards to the attainment of DCA Kenya Country programme by ensuring a high level of communications and visibility of DCA Kenya projects and activities in line with DCA communications policy. The C&E Assistant will ensure production of quality, timely, internal, and external communication materials, messaging, for DCA HQ in Copenhagen, media organizations, donors, government stakeholders and other partners.
The C&E Assistant will also handle social media pages and platforms affiliated with DCA Kenya, in coordination with the Country Director. The C&E Assistant will work closely with DCA Kenya project and programme staff and partner staff in events planning, strategic communication, proper branding and messaging targeted at donors, partners and stakeholders.
The main responsibilities of the Communication & Events Assistant are:
Content creation and capacity building
- Develop and edit content (video, photos and written) to showcase DCA and partner’s work in Kenya, ensuring adherence to donor visibility requirements and DCA brand manual; this includes the layout and sharing on all social media platforms.
- Support DCA field team in photographing and collecting materials for success stories.
- Work with project teams and partner organizations in developing communication & visibility plans as well as to produce compelling and relevant content that adheres to DCA branding and style guidelines.
- Lead and support on training and capacity building of DCA staff and partners on communication.
Social Media
- Create, develop and expand dynamic content on social media platforms (LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram)and the DCA website.
- Manage and monitor DCA Kenya’s social media channels to maintain an active online presence, respond to inquiries, and engage with followers. Provide monthly social media and website performance reports.
- Continuously improve by capturing and analysing the appropriate social data/metrics, insights, and best practices, and then acting on the information.
Strategy, Events & Media
- Support production of DCA Kenya communication strategy with annual action plans.
- Planning and organising key events. Provide media support for DCA events including producing banners, posters and event coverage.
- Provide inputs to DCA global communication initiatives when required, particularly coordination with the HQ colleagues in the media and campaigns unit.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field from a recognized academic institution
- 1-2 years experience in a communications role
- Proficiency in social media platforms
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
- Genuine passion and knack for storytelling
- Open to receiving and incorporating feedback in their work
- Politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy
- Written and verbal fluency in English and Kiswahili is required
Preferred qualifications
- Proficiency in website management (CMS/WordPress)
- Skilled user of software for graphic design (Canva) and/or video/photo editing (Adobe Creative Suite)
- Audiovisual production skills/experience
- Experience in journalism or from a media production company

DCA offers: The position is for a period of two years (renewable) with a three-month probation period. DCA offers a salary package (salary, insurance, and benefits) in accordance to experience and DCA Kenya HR Manual.
