POSITION SUMMARY

IREX is seeking an adept and experienced Arabic-speaking social media strategist to collaborate with partner media organizations in devising and executing impactful social media strategies tailored to the unique challenges facing news organizations in the MENA region.

In this role, the strategist will work closely with partner media organizations, offering expert guidance on optimizing content for diverse social media platforms amidst the challenges posed by the dynamic and evolving social media landscape.

The strategist’s primary objective will be to provide expert guidance and support to partner organizations, ensuring that their social media efforts are strategically aligned with their individual objectives and challenges while navigating the nuanced landscape of news dissemination on social media platforms in the MENA region.

The ideal candidate will possess nuanced knowledge and understanding of the intricacies of different social media platforms, including their algorithms and audience demographics, particularly within the context of news content dissemination on social media platforms in the MENA region and the difficulties this poses.

Beyond technical proficiency in social media management tools and analytics platforms, the successful candidate will exhibit exceptional creativity and strategic thinking, along with a deep understanding of the socio-political landscape of the MENA region.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

The strategist’s duties and responsibilities will vary depending on each partner organization’s situation, challenges, needs and aspirations, but in general, the strategist will:

  • Utilize insights to advise both partner media organizations and IREX on effective social media strategies tailored to their unique needs and aspirations.
  • Guide partner media organizations in navigating social media policies, regulations, and platform guidelines, providing expert recommendations for compliance and effectiveness.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, algorithm changes, and emerging technologies, and share relevant insights with partner organizations to inform strategy development.
  • Collaborate closely with partner organizations and IREX to oversee the implementation of the social media strategies.

 

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE 

  • At least 7 years of experience working in social media management, or a related field, within a news media organization in the MENA region is required.
  • Experience in crafting tailored content strategies based on platform characteristics, audience insights, and industry trends is required.
  • Expertise in implementing effective audience engagement tactics and managing interactions is required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in analyzing and leveraging various social media platforms, particularly within the context of news content dissemination in the MENA region is required.
  • Proven ability to conduct comprehensive audience analysis is required.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in interpreting data to refine and optimize social media strategies are required.
  • Familiarity with social media platform policies, regulations, and guidelines, with the ability to develop compliance strategies and mitigate risks is required.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Excellent English-language writing skills for training assignment reports are required.
  • Excellent Arabic-language speaking and communication skills are highly desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, particularly in multi-cultural environments.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
