The position
As M&E Consultant at Lightup Impact, you will have the unique opportunity to drive meaningful impact and innovation in community building, networking, event organization, and capacity-building initiatives.
You will support our organization in assessing the impact and effectiveness of our community-building activities, network, conferences and events, capacity-building programs, and organizational strategies. You will play a crucial role in helping us measure outcomes, gather feedback, and enhance our strategies for maximum impact evaluation.
Responsibilities and main tasks
M&E framework development:
- Design and develop comprehensive M&E frameworks tailored to our internal activities and programs, incorporating relevant indicators, data collection methods, and evaluation tools.
Data collection and analysis:
- Lead the collection, analysis, and interpretation of quantitative and qualitative data to assess the progress, effectiveness, and impact of our initiatives. This may include surveys, interviews, focus group discussions, and other participatory methods.
Monitoring progress:
- Monitor program activities and outcomes regularly to track progress against targets and milestones and identify and address any challenges or issues that may arise during implementation.
Evaluation and reporting:
- Conduct periodic evaluations and assessments of our programs to measure outcomes, identify lessons learned, and make recommendations for improvement. Prepare high-quality M&E reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop internal workflows/standard operating procedures related to M&E of our programs and strategies.
Capacity building:
- Provide training and technical assistance to staff and partners on M&E concepts, tools, and methodologies. Build our team’s capacity to effectively collect, manage, and utilize data for decision-making and learning.
Knowledge sharing:
- Facilitate learning sessions and reflection exercises to promote knowledge sharing, innovation, and continuous improvement within our organization and with external stakeholders.
Your profile
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant field, such as International Development, Social Sciences, Gender Studies, Monitoring and Evaluation, or a related discipline.
- 1-2 years of proven experience working in M&E roles, preferably within the nonprofit sector or international development context is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of M&E concepts, frameworks (Logframe, Theory of Change, participatory methods, most significant change, and others), methodologies, and best practices.
- Experience in designing and implementing M&E systems for community development, networks, events, and capacity-building programs.
- Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and visualization techniques using Excel, SPSS, STATA, or NVivo software.
- Excellent communication, writing, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders and facilitate participatory processes.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

The position
As a Communications Officer at Lightup Impact, you will implement our communication strategies—creating compelling content for various platforms, including social media, press releases, website, and newsletters; and coordinating the Lightup Impact website, events, and donor communications in support of Lightup Impact’s strategic goals.
Responsibilities and main tasks
- Coordinate our website, event, and donor communications
- Develop content for our social media, website, newsletters, and other communication channels
- Update our website content on a regular basis
- Manage customer relationships with donors, community members, partners, and other stakeholders via emails or distribution of digital communication assets (articles, reports, web features, newsletters).
- Manage and regularly update our customer relationship management (CRM) system on Hubspot
- Coordinate workshops on capacity building and skills development for grassroots organizations in East Africa
- Coordinate and create content for the Lightup Impact blog (writing, editing, and soliciting articles) and event page
- Coordinate and create a communications and marketing strategies for our annual conference
- Coordinate the design and publishing of communications materials aimed at our donors, partners, and the general public (e.g. annual reports, policies, and impact reports)
- Travel up to 5 days twice a year to lead workshops or document visits with non-governmental organizations in Kenya and Uganda
Your profile
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Communications, International Development, Gender Studies, or related fields
- At least 1-2 years of demonstrable experience in an editorial, journalism, or content creation and coordination role is highly desirable
- Understanding of effective website communication practices
- Ability to repurpose technical content to a broader audience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledgeable about the potential and value of storytelling in communications
- Experience with content management systems (e.g., WordPress) and CRM software (e.g., Hubspot)
- Excellent project- and time-management skills with the ability to meet deadlines and prioritize while maintaining a high level of attention to detail
- Work confidently in a cross-functional role with a global team
- Work well in conjunction with the ever-changing conditions of our young organization

The position
As a Program Coordinator at Lightup Impact, you’ll be responsible for managing and coordinating various programs within our organization, including community-building activities, networking events, and capacity-building programs (e.g., our Skills Development and Innovation for Impact Program and Impact Badge). You’ll collaborate with team members and our partners and stakeholders to plan and ensure the successful implementation and execution of these programs. You’ll also play a vital role in facilitating meaningful engagement with stakeholders.
Responsibilities and main tasks
Program planning and development:
- Work closely with our director and team members to develop program goals, objectives, and work plans aligned with organizational priorities and objectives.
- Assist in the design and development of program materials, resources, and activities to support our Skills Development and Innovation for Impact and Impact Badge Programs, and our community building and event management activities.
- Conduct research and gather information to inform program development and decision-making processes.
Program implementation and coordination:
- Coordinate logistics and administrative tasks related to program implementation, including scheduling meetings; booking venues; arranging travel; and procuring materials, supplies, and services.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective communication, coordination, and collaboration throughout the program lifecycle.
Stakeholder engagement and partnerships:
- Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with program participants, partners, donors, and other stakeholders through regular communication, engagement, and feedback mechanisms.
- Support the recruitment, orientation, and engagement of volunteers, interns, community members, and other staff to contribute to program activities and initiatives.
- Represent the organization at meetings, events, and networking opportunities to promote program objectives and foster partnerships within the community and with other stakeholders.
Monitoring, evaluation, and reporting:
- Assist in the collection, analysis, and reporting of program data and performance indicators to assess progress, measure outcomes, and identify areas for improvement.
- Work closely with the monitoring and evaluation and finance officers to monitor program activities and progress against targets, track expenditures, and maintain accurate records to support reporting and accountability requirements.
- Work closely with the communications team, providing content and performance data for monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
Your profile
- Bachelor’s or Masters degree in a relevant field such as International Development, Social Sciences, Community Development, Gender Studies, or a related discipline.
- At least 1-2 years of proven experience working in program coordination, project management, or related roles, preferably within the nonprofit sector or community development context is highly desirable.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to effectively manage multiple tasks, deadlines, and priorities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and build positive relationships.
- Available to travel up to 5 days/month (3-4 times a year) to lead workshops, meet stakeholders, attend networking events, or document visits with NGOs in Kenya and Uganda.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Suite, and other relevant software applications.
- Experience in working with a remote team and with digital program/project management software (e.g., Asana) is an advantage
- Experience with capacity building programs for CSOs and NGOs is an advantage
