About the Programme:

  • Supports early career researchers in Africa.
  • Provides access to the institute’s library, collaboration, networking, and additional resources.
  • Aims to strengthen ties between African and Nordic research communities.

Programme Duration:

  • Minimum of 60 days to a maximum of 90 days.
  • Note: Nordic Africa Institute and Nordic institutions may have reduced operations during specific periods.

Financial Support and Benefits:

  • Comprehensive scholarship package includes:
    • Return airfare.
    • Accommodation.
    • Daily subsistence allowance.
    • Installation grant.
    • Access to shared office space with a desk computer at the Institute.
  • Subsistence allowance provided only for days spent in Uppsala.

Research Opportunities:

Who Can Apply: Open to two main categories of early career researchers:

  1. Full-time staff employed by an African-based university or research center enrolled in a doctoral program.
  2. Postdoctoral researchers within five years of completing their Ph.D.
  • Research topics should align with Social Sciences and Humanities, focusing on contemporary Africa and UN Agenda 2030 principles.

    • 1-page work plan specific to the Institute’s duration.
    • Signed letter of support from the applicant’s Head of Department or senior scholar.
