Data-Pop Alliance (DPA) is looking for a Research and Content Intern for the Data Feminism Program. We are an international nonprofit created in 2013 out of the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative (HHI), the MIT Media Lab and ODI. We bring together researchers, experts, practitioners, and activists to change the world with data through three pillars of work: diagnosing local realities and human problems with data and AI; mobilizing capacities, communities, and ideas towards more data literate societies; and transforming the systems and processes that underpin our societies and countries.
DPA has partnered with and received funding from organizations such as the Inter-American Development Bank, UNDP, FAO, UN ESCWA, GIZ (German development agency), the Vodafone Institute, Oxfam México and other key international stakeholders to develop projects in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), the Middle-East and North Africa (MENA), and Asia. DPA’s projects are managed and carried out by a core team of about 30 people, including Directors, Managers, Officers, Data Scientists, Research Assistants, and Interns.

Scope of Work
Reporting to the Program Director and Project Managers in the “Data Feminism” Program, and working closely with the “Geographies of Inequalities” Program Lead, the Research and Content Intern will have the opportunity to collaborate on projects with international partner organizations and produce research in the fields of gender equality, Data4Development, with particular emphasis on topics related to care systems and unpaid care work. Among others, primary activities for the Research and Content Intern include:
Research on Gender (95%) | Assist Project Manager(s) in designing research methodologies and frameworks to investigate care systems and unpaid care work, particularly in the context of Bangladesh.Conduct literature reviews and gather relevant data from reputable sources, including academic publications, reports, databases, and collaborate with team members to develop data collection instruments, including surveys and interview guides.Conduct primary and secondary data collection through surveys, interviews, and focus group discussions with relevant stakeholders.Organize and manage collected data efficiently using appropriate software tools, and perform quantitative and qualitative analysis of data to derive meaningful insights and trends.Assist in identifying key themes and patterns related to care systems and unpaid care work, particularly in the context of Bangladesh.Contribute to the preparation of comprehensive research reports, and briefs based on the findings and analysis, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and coherence in written outputs, adhering to DPA’s standards.Collaborate with team members to develop visually engaging presentations and infographics to communicate research findings effectively.Collaborate closely with team members to ensure timely completion of research milestones and deliverables, and provide administrative support in organizing meetings, maintaining project documentation, and tracking progress. Contribute actively to team discussions, sharing insights, and proposing innovative ideas for advancing research objectives.Assist in drafting articles, blog posts, and other content pieces for publication on the DPA’s website and external platforms (if applicable).Carry out operational research tasks related to the Data Feminism Program. |

Profile/Qualifications
Qualified candidates are:
- Recent graduate (or student in last semester of university) with a degree in Gender Studies, International Development, Political Science, Sociology, or other social science related field.
- Strong interest in research at the intersection of international development and gender equality, proven by previous academic projects, or volunteer work of professional experience.
- Previous experience analyzing and reviewing gender equality issues, particularly in the context of care systems. Knowledge on health care and unpaid care work is a plus.
- Proficiency in qualitative and quantitative research methods and analysis.
- Familiarity with the socio-cultural context of Bangladesh and/or South East Asia is an asset.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English (fluency in Bengali and/or Hindi is a plus).
- Ability to work with people from different cultural backgrounds.
- Highly proactive, analytical and organized.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and remote productivity tools (Drive, Slack, Zoom, etc.).
- Comfortable with remote teams and processes.
Candidates should be able to work independently, manage their time wisely, and meet deadlines. They should be detail-focused, reliable, professional, and possess strong research, writing, editing, and analysis skills, as well as excellent communication, and interpersonal skills.
Remuneration: $500 USD (monthly)
