Vacancy Announcement: The International Land Coalition is hiring a Landmark Cordinator, Apply!!! (flexible location)

We’re looking for a global coordinator for LandMark, the first online, interactive global platform to provide maps and other critical information on lands collectively held and used by Indigenous Peoples (IPs) and local communities  (LCs) and support the recognition of their rights

ABOUT LANDMARK

Launched in November, 2015, LandMark was developed to fill a critical gap in information on the lands and territories of both Indigenous Peoples and local communities by providing several categories of data to visualise and create awareness of the land tenure situation of IPs and LCs around the world.  The LandMark mapping platform is governed by a network of local and international land rights organisations, structured as a Secretariat, Steering Group, and Advisory Group.  

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This role includes:

WORK PLAN IMPLEMENTATION AND GOVERNANCE

  • Coordinate and implement activities of LandMark, ensuring progress towards milestones and project calendar as set by LandMark’s Steering Group (SG) 
  • Prepare a full work plan, with calendar and budget, to be agreed upon by LandMark SG, and ensure follow up accordingly 
  • Ensure the full functioning and coordination of LandMark’s governing bodies, including the Secretariat, Steering Group (SG) and Advisory Group (AG)
  • Organise and take part in regular meetings of the SG and AG, circulating notes and main action points aftward 
  • Establish and subsequently ensure coordination with the three to-be-established regional focal points (RFPs) 
  • Ensure optimal engagement of all LandMark’s partners, especially IP and LC members
  • Ensure coordination with ILC focal points for data, knowledge management, learning, climate and IPs and LCs, as well as with FAO focal points for the Aim4Forest project
  • Support update of LandMark data by partner processes, including national and regional data processes overseen by ILC, as well as in relevant shadow reports

BUDGETING, REPORTING AND RESOURCE MOBILIZATION

  • In collaboration with the LandMark SG, coordinate implementation of available budget, in accordance with guidance provided by SG 
  • Coordinate contributions of decentralised members in view of global reporting and prepare yearly financial and narrative reports received from partners 
  • Prepare narrative reports as per donor requirements, for review and clearance from the LandMark SG 
  • Organise internal tools and reporting procedures to collect inputs and lessons learned from partners and regional focal points 
  • Implement a system to monitor and evaluate progress and achievements under each area of work, providing regular updates to the SG in alignment with the work plan
  • Participate in global resource mobilisation activities and initiatives, including reaching out to and engaging donors, writing of proposals

DECENTRALISATION, REGIONAL COMMUNITIES OF PRACTICE AND MAPPING PLATFORMS

  • Accompany the process of LandMark decentralisation – support identification and establishment of RFPs and support them in developing regional communities of practice and mapping platforms
  • Coording and support activities of RFPs and platforms, as well as their development in terms of resource mobilisation 

LEARNING

  • In collaboration with ILC, LandMark partners and RFPs, identify learning and capacity gaps, as well as other needs
  • Support the organisation of trainings to improve decentralised capacity building with regards to mapping and geodata

LANDMARK PLATFORM 

  • Support, where necessary and possible, the development of the LandMark  mapping platform in support of the World Resources Institute (WRI), a member of the LandMark Secretariat on with ILC, LandMark partners and RFPs, identify learning and capacity gaps, as well as other needs

REQUIRED SKILLS

EXPERIENCE

  • Programme management and facilitation 
  • Working with Indigenous Peoples organisations and/or being familiar with their historic struggles for land and territorial rightsKnowledge and implementation of participatory mapping processes 

TECHNICAL

  • Experience with mapping and GIS 
  • Knowledge and implementation of participatory mapping processes 

LANGUAGES

  • English (fluent) required; additional languages preferred 

EDUCATION

  • Advanced university degree preferred but not required 

TERMS

The LandMark coordinator will work closely with its Secretariat, Steering Group and Advisory Group. The contract will be under the supervision of the International Land Coalition (ILC), as a member of the Secretariat. The preference is for the coordinator to be based at the ILC Secretariat, hosted by IFAD in Rome, Italy. Flexible arrangements will be considered, however.
