Vienna Office: A Hub of Development Excellence
Established in 2004, the World Bank’s Vienna office has grown significantly over the years. Currently housing around 250 staff from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (World Bank) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the Vienna office is a dynamic hub focusing on both the public and private sectors.
World Bank Vienna Internship Program (VIEIP)
The VIEIP is tailored for qualified graduate students from Austrian universities, providing them with a unique opportunity to contribute to the development initiatives supported by the World Bank Vienna Office. Interns will gain hands-on experience, improve their skills, and become part of a diverse environment dedicated to ending extreme poverty and boosting shared prosperity.

Vacant Positions
The VIEIP offers eight distinct positions, each focusing on critical areas such as macroeconomics, trade and investment, financial sector advisory, water programs, investment climate, energy and extractives, environment and climate, social sustainability, and digital development. Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the internship, candidates must:
- Hold an undergraduate degree.
- Be enrolled in a full-time graduate study program (master’s or PhD) at an Austrian university.
- Have plans to return to school full-time.
- Possess fluency in English.
The program has no nationality requirement and no age limit. Diversity is highly valued, and applications from individuals with diverse professional and academic backgrounds, particularly women, are encouraged.

Application Process
Applications are accepted via email from December 11 to February 9, 2024. The individual hiring units will review applications based on their business needs, shortlisting candidates for interviews. Only short-listed candidates will be contacted. Hiring decisions are expected to be finalized by the end of March 2024.
