Unleash Your Potential at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland

Internship Opportunity at the European Organization for Nuclear Research

Company Description

Nestled in the heart of Geneva, Switzerland, CERN (the European Organization for Nuclear Research) stands as a beacon of scientific excellence. With a mission to unravel the fundamental structure of the universe, CERN’s physicists and engineers utilize the world’s largest and most intricate scientific instruments to study the basic constituents of matter—fundamental particles that collide at speeds approaching the velocity of light. By doing so, they unearth valuable insights into particle interactions, shedding light on the fundamental laws of nature. For more information, visit CERN’s official website.

Diversity is not just a principle at CERN; it is an integral part of the organization’s DNA.

CERN is deeply committed to education, with a key focus on sharing knowledge and expertise with students who are dedicated to their chosen fields. If you are currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, or Mathematics, and you’re seeking a transformative training experience during the European summer (June – September), then the CERN Summer Student Programme 2024 is your gateway to an unparalleled opportunity.

Job Description

Join CERN’s Summer Student Programme and immerse yourself in an enriching experience! Over a span of 8 to 13 weeks, you will actively contribute to an advanced technical project within an experimental or engineering team.

During this unique period, you will have the privilege of attending specialized lectures by experts and scientists from across the globe. The topics span the fields of theoretical and experimental particle physics, engineering, and computing. The programme also includes visits to CERN facilities, discussion sessions, and workshops. At the conclusion of your stay, a brief report on your work and project at CERN will be expected.

To qualify for this extraordinary opportunity, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a Bachelor’s or Master’s student (not a PhD candidate) in Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, or Mathematics, having completed at least 6 semesters of full-time studies by the European Summer of 2024 at the university level.
  • Remain registered as a student throughout your stay at CERN. If you anticipate graduating in the European summer of 2024 (as of May), you are still eligible to apply.
  • Have not worked at CERN in any other capacity (Technical Student, Trainee, User, or similar) for more than 3 months, and have not been a Summer Student at CERN previously.
  • Possess good knowledge of English; knowledge of French would be advantageous.

Candidates from all nationalities are encouraged to apply for this Summer Student Programme.
