Become a Fellow! Apply for the Charles R. Wall Conservation Leadership and Management Fellowship Programme 2024

Are you interested in becoming part of a community of young African professionals who are leading systemic change in the environmental space? Do not miss out on a training programme on International Biodiversity Governance, jointly led by African Wildlife Foundation and UN Environment Programme.

What is the objective of the programme?

  • To establish a pool of young professionals with sufficient knowledge and negotiation skills on international environmental governance capable of contributing to policy formulation, negotiation, and review processes at country, regional, and international levels

Who is it for?

Africans living in Africa, between the ages of 20 to 35 and have demonstrated commitment to conservation (especially policy engagement) with at least 2 years of experience working in the sector.

What does the program entail and how is it structured?

  • Designed to take 15 fellows from diverse background, this is a 9 months learning journey, starting in April and ending in December 2024.
  • It is fully funded, including virtual workshops monthly, a week long workshop in Nairobi in June, participation in one of the international policy making conferences i.e. IPBES, UN Biodiversity or UN Climate Change and networking opportunity with industry expects.

Thematic areas of training include but are not limited to:

  • Introduction to biodiversity, state of biodiversity of contemporary issues afefcting conservation
  • Deep dive to Multilateral Environmental Agreements and current startegic strategic plans guiding global efforts (i.e. The Convention on Biological Diversity and the Kunming-Montral Global Biodiversity Framework)
  • Deep dive of how these agreements are negotiated, adopted and implemented at a regional and national levels
