The African Union Commission, in collaboration with the Kofi Annan Foundation, launched the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) – Kofi Annan Global Health Leadership Programme on May 25, 2020. This groundbreaking initiative aims to empower senior public health professionals from African Union Member States with advanced skills and competencies to strategically manage and lead transformative public health programs across the continent.
The program, approved by the Governing Board of Africa CDC in March 2018, targets aspirational leaders committed to implementing a new public health order for Africa. These leaders will play a crucial role in mentoring the next generation of public health professionals. The remarkable progress of the program is evident in the graduation of 39 Fellows from over 20 AU Member States, with 20 more currently in training.

The alumni of the Kofi Annan Fellowship have demonstrated tangible impact by leading national programs, replicating leadership initiatives in their institutions, and even assuming governmental ministerial positions.
