Open Call for Fully Funded PhD Positions at the Amsterdam Institute for Social Science Research (AISSR) 2024

The Amsterdam Institute for Social Science Research (AISSR) is offering an exciting opportunity for prospective PhD candidates. The AISSR invites applications for five fully funded (salaried) PhD positions, covering the entire spectrum of social science disciplines, topics, and methods.

About AISSR:

The AISSR, part of the Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Amsterdam, consists of 13 program groups across four departments. It fosters an intellectual environment that encourages interdisciplinary collaboration and theoretical/methodological pluralism.

Key Details:

  • Disciplines: All social science disciplines, topics, and methods are welcome.
  • Eligibility: Applicants must hold a master’s degree or equivalent within the social sciences by September 1, 2024.
  • Duration: The temporary employment contract is for 38 hours per week, with a maximum term of four years.
  • Start Date: Preferred starting date is September 1, 2024.

Applications will be assessed based on:

  1. Quality, significance, and feasibility of the research proposal.
  2. Fit with the AISSR and alignment with existing research and expertise.
  3. Diversity of candidates, encompassing distinct profiles, expertise, perspectives, and backgrounds.

What’s Offered:

  • A temporary employment contract, including courses, research, and teaching responsibilities.
  • Salary ranges from €2,770 to €3,539 gross per month, based on a 38-hour workweek.
  • Additional benefits, including holiday allowance and year-end bonus.

Criteria for Evaluation:

Applications will be assessed based on three criteria:

  1. Quality, Significance, and Feasibility: Proposals should have the potential to deliver groundbreaking insights, with a clear and comprehensive plan.
  2. Fit with AISSR: Proposals should align well with existing research and expertise within the institute to ensure high-quality supervision.
  3. Diversity: The AISSR seeks candidates with distinct profiles, expertise, and backgrounds, contributing to the diversity of the social sciences.
