Apply for the 2024 YouthMappers Leadership Fellowship

Are you an undergraduate or graduate student passionate about mapping and community leadership? The YouthMappers network is excited to announce the opening of applications for the 2024 YouthMappers Leadership Fellowship. This unique opportunity is open to students currently enrolled in any field at an institution of higher education with an official YouthMappers chapter in good standing.

Key Details

  • Application Deadline: January 1, 2024 (midnight, local time)
  • Program Duration: 10-day workshop in May or June 2024 (exact location to be announced)

Fellowship Benefits

Selected students will receive:

  • Knowledge, skills, and technical training in open mapping techniques
  • Leadership capacity building
  • Enriched chapter activities

The program covers travel expenses, including airfare, lodging, and meals for the workshop. Fellows will also benefit from pre-departure sessions, mentorship by international experts, and ongoing engagement with an online community.

Expectations

Fellows are expected to:

  • Implement activities in their home chapters based on the knowledge gained during the workshop
  • Conduct leadership seminars, launch data collection efforts, initiate gender programming, and more
  • Report back to YouthMappers through a blog detailing their experiences

How to Apply

  1. Submit responses through the official application form.
  2. Include a brief 2-page CV highlighting your qualifications and interests in the summit themes.
  3. Upload your CV in the short application form.
  4. If any issues arise, email [email protected] with your name in the subject line.

Within the application, provide the FULL name and contact information of a faculty or mentor who has agreed to provide a reference.

Eligibility Conditions

  • Alumni, previous fellowship or regional ambassadorship awardees, and faculty advisors are ineligible.
  • Chapters in Good Standing, approved by the YouthMappers Steering Committee, are eligible.
  • Applicants must be active members; no limit on the number of applicants per chapter.
  • Valid passport is required for consideration due to anticipated visa-application time-frames.

Special priority will be given to students from chapters without previous fellowship or ambassadorship recipients.

Preferred Countries

Preferred countries include any with a USAID presence and/or a YouthMappers chapter, including the United States. Applicants from the host country will be considered in a special preferred category.

Language Requirement

The official language for applications, training, and program communication is English.

The 2024 YouthMappers Leadership Fellows Summit is organized by YouthMappers institutions: Arizona State University (fiscal lead), The George Washington University, West Virginia University, and Texas Tech University.
