Introduction:
The Africa-China Initiative, housed at the Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University, is proud to announce its collaboration with the Center for African Studies at Howard University. Together, they are offering a one-year Africa-China Initiative (ACI) Research Fellowship, fostering the exchange of African scholarship, expertise, and perspectives on Africa-China relations, as well as broader Africa-Asia and Global South research.
Objective:
The primary aim of the ACI Fellowship is to enrich the academic landscape at Georgetown and Howard, providing faculty, students, research and policy centers, and government agencies in the Washington, DC area with insights from African scholars. The fellowship targets both non-tenured and tenured PhD holders, with a special emphasis on early- and mid-career scholars possessing international experience and a strong record in Africa-China research.
Fellowship Details:
- The ACI Fellow will reside in the Washington, DC area for at least 10 months, spending one academic term at Georgetown and one at Howard, consecutively.
- Funded through the ACI – Henry Luce grant award, the fellowship offers a $60,000 stipend, benefits, and a round-trip flight.
- During the fellowship, the ACI Fellow will split their time between supporting the Africa-China initiatives at both institutions and engaging in research and writing projects.
Responsibilities:
- Public lectures at both institutions.
- Guest lecturing on the Fellow’s expertise.
- Active engagement with students through formal and informal mentorship.
- Conducting research utilizing resources like The Library of Congress and The National Archives.
Eligibility:
The fellowship is open to doctoral graduates with a research background in disciplines such as history, political science, international relations, sociology, economics, anthropology, or related fields. Applicants will be evaluated based on the originality and relevance of their scholarship, academic record, and track record on Africa-China issues.
