THE POSITION
RAN is looking for a motivated, passionate and self-directed person to support our Deputy Executive Director, Leadership Team, and overall organizational function. The ability to interact with staff at all levels while remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful, and efficient is essential. A high level of professionalism and confidentiality is crucial. The ideal candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Attentiveness to detail and strong project and time management abilities are important. This person should have strong interpersonal skills and the ability and willingness to represent RAN and its mission.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Support the Deputy Executive Director (DED) –
- Support Deputy Executive Director, team directors and wider team in developing and implementing annual workplans;
- Project manage and coordinate across global time zones and departments and support other team members in their project management;
- Lead special projects as requested and assist in various aspects of RAN’s work as requested by the DED with precision and the utmost respect for confidentiality;
- Work with the DED, team directors, and development department on foundation proposals and membership materials;
- Manage an extremely active inbox in collaboration with the DED, synthesize content, draft or answer correspondence when appropriate, and ensure timely follow up;
- Plan and coordinate the DED’s extremely active calendar of appointments in alignment with established priorities, serving as both “gatekeeper” and “gateway” to create win-win situations for direct access to the DED’s time and office;
- Complete expense reports and other administrative responsibilities as for the DED and potentially other Leadership Team members;
- Attend meetings when requested to collect agenda items, take notes, and produce minutes, as needed;
- Prioritize conflicting needs; handle matters expeditiously, proactively, discreetly with kindness and respect, and follow-through on projects to successful completion, often with deadline pressures;
- Manage end-to-end travel processes, including arranging strategic meetings, providing appropriate briefings, setting itineraries, and managing expenses;
- Maintain broad up-to-date knowledge of RAN’s work and progress across campaigns, provide real time support as needed while DED is traveling, in meetings, or for time-sensitive updates and communications;
- Willingness to travel, likely one to two times a quarter on average.
Support the Leadership Team and Organization Broadly –
- Scheduling and administrative support for the Climate and Energy Program Director;
- Project management and administrative support of initiatives led by the executive team, including racial justice;
- Coordinate Program and team meeting agendas, retreats, and priorities; maintain rolling notes document;
- Maintain and create plans and timelines for organizational processes in coordination with program team, such as work planning and annual budget creation;
- Contribute to and cultivate a culture of direct feedback, equitable and transparent practices, and collaborative work-spaces while prioritizing integrity, collectivity, and racial justice;
- Coordinate with RAN departments to ensure that work is well coordinated across the organization;
- Update and maintain the program calendar and track deadlines;
- Assist with hiring processes, as requested, and onboarding new team members;

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- 3+ years direct experience assisting a high-level executive, ideally in a fast-paced non-profit environment;
- Strong organizational, time management and project management skills;
- Impeccable administrative skills – drafting correspondence, managing email, scheduling, record keeping, etc.;
- Highly organized, able to plan, prioritize and multitask;
- Strong writing skills that allow for drafting of materials tailored to a wide range of audiences;
- Ability to manage across a large international team working in multiple time zones and work with staff at all levels as well as allies and funders;
- Solid computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and strong internet research skills);
- Basic budgeting knowledge;
- Excellent judgment, ability to adhere to confidentiality as needed, and strong emotional intelligence to facilitate relationship building with staff, senior management, the Board, RAN supporters, and allies;
- Demonstrates an awareness and sensitivity to the needs and concerns of individuals from diverse cultures, backgrounds and orientations.
- Contributes to the creation of a diverse, equitable and inclusive work culture that encourages and celebrates differences.
- Ability to travel and willingness to work flexible hours for meetings with our global team based in North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- Additional language skills from regions in which we work are a plus, including but not limited to Indonesian, Portuguese, Spanish, and Japanese;
- Working knowledge or strong interest in deforestation, Indigenous rights and climate change;
- Prior organizing and campaigning experience; and
- Prior fundraising experience.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
This is a full-time position with an anticipated starting salary range of $65,000 – $75,000 commensurate with experience. Because of RAN’s governance structure and legal setup, and the financial responsibilities of this position, the finalist must be legally authorized to work in the US. Further, the incumbent should expect to overlap with the Pacific time zone for at least 4 hours each day.
Benefits include 100% RAN-paid health, dental and vision insurance for the staff person and their partner/family, four weeks PTO (increases to five weeks after two years) as well as a paid winter break, and a retirement plan with a 3% employer match. Additionally, after every five years of service, staff are eligible for a 12-week fully-paid sabbatical.
