Call for Applications: Graduate Study in Childhood Studies at Rutgers-Camden, USA (Scholarship Available)

Applications are currently open for Ph.D. and MA programs at the Department of Childhood Studies.

Ph.D. Application Deadline: January 17, 2024, for the Fall 2024 term.

Funding Opportunities:

  • The department offers up to 5 years of competitive funding through Graduate Assistantships for Ph.D. students. For detailed information, prospective students are encouraged to visit the Financial Aid website.
  • When should I apply for financial aid?You should apply for financial aid once you have completed your application for the childhood studies program. Applications for financial aid can be submitted online at https://studentaid.rutgers.edu/ Submit financial aid applications by March 15 if applying for fall admission.

Department Initiatives:

In Spring 2023, the Department secured a four-year Mellon Foundation-funded Grant, “Rethinking Race and Justice through Childhood Studies.” This grant facilitates ongoing initiatives, such as the Centering Black Childhoods Speakers Series and the upcoming June 2024 conference, “Visions of Racial Justice and Childhood.”

Meet the Faculty: The Department is delighted to welcome Dr. Destiny Crockett, the inaugural Mellon Humanities Postdoctoral Fellow in Childhood Studies and Racial Justice. The diverse faculty, spanning various disciplines, actively contributes to the dynamic field of childhood studies through research, public engagement, and teaching. Established in 2007, the Department of Childhood Studies at Rutgers University-Camden proudly holds the distinction of being the first Ph.D. granting program in Childhood Studies in North America. The program attracts graduate students from diverse backgrounds, enriching the academic environment with a wealth of educational and life experiences.
