Young Research Advisors: Become a Young Advisor Today!!

Join the Young Research Advisors: If you’re passionate about contributing to impactful research and shaping the future, we invite you to get involved with the Young Research Advisor

Introduction

At the heart of groundbreaking research lies a commitment to diversity, relevance, and impact. Since its establishment in 2011, the Young Research Advisors (YRAs) have been instrumental in infusing fresh perspectives into the National Children’s Bureau (NCB) research initiatives. Comprising a diverse group of children and young people aged 7-18, recruited from across the UK, the YRAs play a pivotal role in steering the quality and impact of NCB’s research endeavors.

Empowering Youth Through Engagement: The YRAs embody the belief that involving young people enhances the quality and relevance of research. This vibrant group includes children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities, aged up to 25, who actively contribute to the group’s dynamics.

Ongoing Training and Varied Roles

Members of the YRAs undergo continuous training in research methods, ethics, and key policy issues. Their roles within the group are multifaceted and include:

  1. Advising on, testing, and co-designing research methods and tools.
  2. Conducting primary research activities, such as peer research.
  3. Interpreting and disseminating research findings.
  4. Exploring research priorities and questions.

The YRAs form a cohesive research community, meeting regularly to foster collaboration. Additionally, they engage in project-specific consultations and conduct remote consultations via Skype, email, and telephone. A commitment to diversity is embedded in the group’s ethos, with regular refreshment of YRA membership to ensure a wide spectrum of views and opinions.
