Black Diplomats Academy (BDA) Cohort-Applications are Now Open!

The Black Diplomats Academy (BDA) is launching a groundbreaking 10-month virtual fellowship on February 9, 2024, targeting the underrepresentation of Black professionals in Public Sector and Global Diplomacy Careers. This program offers specialized training for Black youth aged 18-35.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the BDA program, applicants must:
- Currently attend or have graduated within 24 months from a College/University.
- Identify as Black/African descent.
- Have an interest in Diplomatic and Public Sector Careers.
- Be available for 4 hours of weekly online module delivery.
Program Objectives
The BDA program is designed to:
- Equip participants to engage in regional, national, and global policy issues, focusing on sustainable employment and the digital age’s future of work.
- Collaborate with national and international partners to deliver the program.
- Provide opportunities for career exploration, valuable insights, and coaching/mentorship.
Modules
Weekly learning labs cover topics such as:
- Introduction to Diplomacy
- Diplomatic Business Development, Trade, and Procurement
- Sustainable Development Goals
- Bilateral and Multilateral Relations/Treaty Partnerships
- Youth in Diplomacy
- Careers in Diplomacy and Negotiation
- Public Speaking Engagements
Program Timeline
- February – May 2024: Weekly learning labs via Zoom on Fridays and Saturdays (1:00 pm – 3:00 pm EDT).
- May – July 2024: Group work creating working papers on UN’s International Decade on People of African Descent and Sustainable Development Goals.
- July 12 – 14, 2024: Black Diplomacy Global Summit in Ottawa, Ontario.
- July – December 2024: Mentorship matching and potential internships.
- December 14, 2024: BDA Gala (Graduation) in Ottawa, Ontario.
