Are you a professional or amateur photographer or simply interested in millets? If yes, submit your best shots to participate in the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO-International Year of Millets Photo Contest 2024). Participating in this photo contest will help spread the word about the many benefits of millets, including their diversity, the range of healthful dishes they can produce, their ability to grow in dry lands, and their market potential.

Your photograph must show one or more of the following:

  • Millets are resistant to climate change.
  • Millets are tasty and can help you have healthy food.
  • Millets provide promising post-harvest and processing options for small-scale farmers and small and medium-sized businesses.

Awards of the FAO-International Year of Millets Photo Contest

The winning contestants will benefit from the contest as follows:

  • The photo contest winner will receive an invitation to the official closing ceremony of the International Year of Millets in 2024. According to FAO standards, the winners will receive the travel expenses compensation.
  • FAO will announce the winners on the International Year of Millets website in early December 2023.
  • They will have the promotion opportunity on the FAO social media and by FAO offices worldwide and partner websites.
  • The five winners will get a certificate of honor and a surprise gift bag.
  • If any of the selected winner(s) of any prize is ineligible according to the Contest rules or the General Rules, Copyright, and Privacy, or they refuse the prize, FAO will fortify the prize, and FAO has the sole right to award the prize to another eligible photograph.
  • FAO will only announce the first and last name of the winner when publishing the winning images. There will be no further personal information about the candidates published or shared.

Who Can Apply?

All contestants should meet the following expectations and criteria:

  • Participants must be at least 18 years old.
  • Each participant can submit up to five images by completing and submitting the registration form. They can submit each photo separately using the form.
  • Participants must own the rights to the images and have taken them themselves.
  • The images must not be older than the years before the contest deadline (e.g., after 1 October 2018).

Photograph Requirements:

  • Each photograph should have a title and a short description or caption explaining what the photo represents, taking into account one or more of the aspects specified, as well as where/when the photograph was taken (max. 150 words).
  • Participants can share their images on social media using the #IYM2023 #YearofMillets hashtags and tagging @FAO.
  • Photographs should be in jpeg format. Images should be of excellent quality (300 dpi and 5000 pixels, with a file size of no more than 2 MB). Images in color or black and white are acceptable.
  • The submissions must not violate or infringe on the rights of third parties, including but not limited to trademark, privacy, publicity, and other intellectual property rights, or constitute copyright infringement.
  • The application does not include dates, texts, brand names, logos, or trademarks.
  • The IYM Secretariat respects the rights of photographers and does not claim ownership of photographs submitted to this contest. The author fully owns each entry. FAO will thank the photographer whenever they use the photograph.
  • By entering the contest, the contestant grants FAO permission to use the image in FAO literature and on FAO digital platforms for non-commercial purposes.
  • FAO will share the top five images on its corporate social media channels, and a popular vote will decide the four runners-up.

How to Enter the FAO-International Year of Millets Photo Contest 2024?
